In this article, we will study about Subject and Object in detail. We will just study about the verb in brief here and will study it in detail later in this course.

Subject

A Subject is the one whom/ which we talk about or the one who performs an action.
A subject is always Noun or Pronoun.
To find Subject in a sentence just ask yourself a question “Who/What + Verb ?” 

 

Verb

A Verb is a word, which describes the action or the state of the subject.

Examples: 

to dance, to sing, to think, to read, to write, to see, to move, to miss, to beat

is, am, are, was, were, has, have, had, do, does, did, will etc.

 

Object

An Object is the one, which gets affected by the action or the state of the subject.
To find Subject in a sentence just ask yourself a question “Subject + Verb + What/Where ?” 

 

Examples:

  • Tom is on the bed.
    Subject: Tom [Who is on the bed?]
    Verb: is
    Object: bed [Tom is where ?]
  • Alice is dancing.
    Subject: Alice [Who is dancing?]
    Verb: is and dancing
    Object: No Object [Alice is what?]
  • Robert sings well.
    Subject: Robert [Who is singing ?]
    Verb: sings
    Object: No Object [No answer to questions, Robert sings what? or, Robert sings where? ]
  • He throws the ball.
    Subject: He [Who throws the ball ?]
    Verb: throws
    Object: ball [He throws what?]
  • The book is on the desk.
    Subject: book [What is on the desk ?]
    Verb: is
    Object: desk [The book is where?]
