Kinds of Sentences: Classification 1

  1. Assertive or Declarative Sentences:
    Such sentences state a fact, opinion or idea.
    Examples
    Tom is my son.
    Tom is not at home.
    Alice doesn’t go to school.
    Papa scolds me.
  2. Interrogative Sentences Sentences:
    Where a question is asked.
    Examples
    Is Tom not at home?
    Do you play?
  3. Imperative Sentences Sentences:
    Which are used to command or request are known as imperative sentences.
    Examples
    Sit there. [Command]
    Let me go. [Request]
  4. Exclamatory Sentences Sentences:
    Which are used to express sudden emotions.
    Examples
    Wow!
    Thank God!

 

Kinds of Sentences: Classification 2

  1. Affirmative:
    These are Assertive/ Declarative sentences but No Negation
    Example
    Tom is a bad boy
  2. Negative:
    These are also Assertive/ Declarative sentences but Negation is there.
    Example
    Tom is not a good boy.
  3. Interrogative:
    Question Mark Sentences without Negation
    Example
    Is Tom a bad boy?
  4. Negative Interrogative
    Question Mark Sentences with a mandatory Negation
    Example
    Is Tom not a bad boy?
