What does the sports curriculum of a nineteenth century girls’ school tell us about the behaviour considered proper for girls at that time?
Ans. Sports and vigorous exercise were not considered suitable for girls till the last part of the 19th century. Girls could walk and skip and could do nothing more than those. They could also play croquet, which was a slow-paced, elegant game at that time. They were not allowed to over-exert themselves or become absorbed in athletic rivalries. They were also not allowed to make country excursions.
