Archana Ramasundram became head of paramilitary force
Archana Ramasundram on 1 February 2016 was appointed as the Director General of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) that guards India’s frontiers with Nepal and Bhutan.
She is the first woman to head a paramilitary force. Archana is Tamil Nadu Cadre IPS officer. Other appointments
IPS officer K Durga Prasad was appointed as Director Generals of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
IPS officer K K Sharma appointed as Chief of the Border Security Force (BSF).
Vietnam had temporarily banned the import of groundnuts from India. This ban was in effect from 6 April 2015. Ban was imposed due to pests in consignments of groundnuts exported since January 2015..
India will be able to resume export after nine months.
India and Brunei signed 3 MoU to deepen bilateral cooperation
The MoUs were signed in Brunei capital Bandar Seri Begawan during the Vice President Hamid Ansari’s 3-day visit to the country.

India and Afghanistan, visa-free travel by diplomats
On 1st February 2016, India and Afghanistan signed a pact for visa-free travel by their diplomats.
The agreement was signed after Afghan Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah’s meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Chief Executive Officer of Afghanistan is position within the Government of Afghanistan.
The International Swimming Federation (FINA) on 31 January 2016 announced that the Japanese city of Fukuoka will host the 2021 World Aquatics Championships. and the capital of Qatar, Doha will host the 2023 event.
Novak Djokovic won the 2016 Australian Open Men’s Singles Title
In the final played at Melbourne, the Serbian defeated Andy Murray of Britain. With this, Djokovic retained his title and also equalled the record of Roy Emerson’s record of six Australian Open Singles titles.
Kidambi Srikanth won Men’s Singles title of Syed Modi International Badminton Championships 2016
Final match was played at Babu Banarasi Das Indoor Stadium in Lucknow. He defeated China’s Huang Yuxiang, 21-13, 14-21, 21-14.
This was Srikanth’s fifth title. The other four titles include Thailand Grand Prix Gold, China Super Series premier, Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold and India Super Series.
Syed Modi International Badminton Championship is named after a famous Indian badminton player Syed Modi, an eight-time National Badminton champion.

Muktesh Kumar Pardeshi appointed as India’s Ambassador to Mexico
Pardeshi is a Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer of 1991 batch. He is currently posted as Joint Secretary (Passport division) in the Union Ministry of External Affairs.
Union Government also appointed P Harish as India’s Ambassador to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Harish is a Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer of 1990 batch.

India and NASA will explore the environment of Ladakh
About NASA’s Spaceward Bound programme
It is an educational program developed at NASA’s Ames Research Center in California, the USA. Its mission is to train the next generation of space explorers by having students and teachers participate in the exploration of different regions on the planet.
Previously this program was to explore the Atacama Desert (South America), Mojave Desert (the USA), Pavilion Lake (Canada) and Arctic region among others.
First revised estimates of macroeconomic indicators for 2014-15 released

Leprosy also known as Hansen’s disease, is a chronic infection caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium leprae and Mycobacterium lepromatosis. It is a contagious disease that affects the skin, mucous membranes, and nerves, causing discoloration and lumps on the skin and, in severe cases, disfigurement and deformities. Leprosy is now mainly confined to tropical Africa and Asia.
In India as on 1 April 2013, 33 out of 35 States/Union Territories have eliminated leprosy.
The day is celebrated in the memory of Mahatma Gandhi, in order to re-memorize his selfless efforts and care for the people affected by the leprosy.
Book titled Nathuram Godse – The Story of an Assassin released
The book titled “Nathuram Godse – The Story of an Assassin” by Anup Ashok Sardesai was released on 30 January 2016.
The book narrates the story of Nathuram Vinayakrao Godse and his brother who suffered a life of immense mental torture. It also speaks of the family of Godse who faced countless abuses and humiliations.
