SEBI increase the Foreign Portfolio Investors limit
Markets regulator, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) on 29 March 2016 decided to increase the Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPI) investment limit in Central Government securities. This will boost inflows of foreign funds into Indian capital markets.
The limit was increased to 140000 crore rupees from 135400 crore rupees and will be effective from 4 April 2016. It will be further increased to 144000 crore rupees from 5 July 2016.
Telecom Commission approved 112 as Single Emergency Number for India
The Telecom Commission approved the number 112 as the single emergency number for India on 28 March 2016. This is similar to 911 of United States and 999 of United Kingdom.
With this, Indian citizens in distress can just dial the single-number 112 for all emergency services such as police, ambulance and the fire department. It will direct the call to concerned departments immediately for help.
The service will also be accessible even through those SIMs and landlines whose outgoing call facility has been stopped or temporarily suspended.
USAID and ADB signed MOU to develop solar parks in India
The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on 28 March 2016 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate 848 million US dollars in funding to develop solar parks across India.
The agreement was signed by Jonathan Addleton, Mission Director, USAID/India and M. Teresa Kho, Country Director, India Resident Mission, Asian Development Bank.
This agreement between USAID and ADB will help finance the development of solar parks in support of the Government of India’s renewable energy targets.
Tata Motors signed a contract with Indian Army to supply another 619 HMV trucks
Tata Motors on 28 March 2016 announced that it signed a follow-on contract with the Indian Army to supply 619 units of its 6X6 high-mobility vehicle (HMV) multi-axle truck.
This is in conjunction, to an earlier order awarded to Tata Motors for 1239 units of its 6X6 MMV. This is the single largest order awarded to an Indian private firm in land systems by the Indian Army under the Union Ministry of Defence, Defence Procurement Procedure (DPP).
World Bank’s $1500 million support to Swachh Bharat Mission – Gramin
Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 23 March 2016 approved the 1500 million US dollar project of World Bank to support Swachh Bharat Mission – Gramin (SBM-G).
The approval seeks to provide for the mechanism of incentivisation of States under the SBM-G through World Bank credit. The incentivisation of the States on the basis of their performance under the SBM-G was approved by the Union Cabinet on 24 September 2014.
RBI issued revised Framework for Revival and Rehabilitation of MSMEs
The Reserve Bank of India on 17 March 2016 issued revised Framework for Revival and Rehabilitation of Medium, Small and Micro Enterprises (MSMEs). This revised Framework will supersede RBI’s earlier Guidelines on Rehabilitation of Sick Micro and Small Enterprises issued on 1 November 2012.
BHEL commissioned 600 MW Thermal Power Plant in Telangana
Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) on 25 March 2016 announced that it successfully commissioned a 600 MW coal-based thermal power plant in Telangana. The 1200 MW Jaipur Power Plant is being developed by Singareni Collieries Company Limited.
For Telangana, it is the second major plant after the formation of the State in June 2014. Earlier, in December 2015, the 600 MW Kakatiya Thermal Power Plant Stage-II was commissioned at Bhoopalapally in Warangal district.
World Water Day 2016 was globally observed on 22 March 2016 with the theme Water and Jobs. The theme for the World Water Day 2016 talks about how water links to jobs as three out of four of the jobs worldwide are water-dependent.
In fact, water shortages and lack of access may limit economic growth in the years to come.

Union Government notified new Plastic Waste Management Rules to curb 6000 tonnes of plastic waste
Union Environment Ministry on 18 March 2016 notified new Plastic Waste Management Rules to curb over 6000 tonnes of uncollected plastic waste generated daily by industries.
It made the rules related to usage and production of plastic to be more stringent as it tries to bring in more eco friendly society.
Rules related to plastic waste management to give thrust on plastic waste minimization, source segregation,recycling, involving waste pickers, recyclers and waste processors in collection of plastic waste were also reviewed and revised.
It is the country’s biggest civil aviation show. The five day show was inaugurated by President Pranab Mukherjee at Begumpet Airport (also known as Hyderabad Old Airport).
Theme for the year 2016 : “Indian civil aviation sector: Potential as global manufacturing MRO hub.”
The show aims to showcase India as a hub for aerospace manufacturing and MRO (maintenance, repair and overhauling) services. It would also highlight the emerging investment opportunities in the Indian aerospace manufacturing market.
IMD develops Drishti for providing real time visibility information to pilots
CSIR and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) have indigenously developed Drishti system, a visibility measuring system that provides information to pilots on visibility for safe landing and take-off operations, particularly during foggy or rainy days.
The need for “Drishti system” was felt as flights were usually delayed due to fog and especially during the winter months.
The system was introduced for the first time at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in New Delhi in 2015 on a trial basis, and later in phased it was installed at locations that often experience fog. Currently, there are 10 instruments at Delhi, three each at Jaipur, Varanasi, Lucknow; one each at Amritsar and Kolkata.
