PM Modi launched "Gram Uday Se Bharat Uday Abhiyan"

On 14 April 2016 PM Narendra Modi launched 'Gram Uday Se Bharat Uday Abhiyan' at Mhow, Madhya Pradesh.

The 11-day Abhiyan (campaign) was launched on the 125th birth anniversary of Babasaheb Ambedkar.

The aim of this campaign is to make nationwide efforts to strengthen Panchayati Raj, boost social harmony in the villages, promote rural development and foster farmers’ welfare & livelihoods of the poor.

Namami Gange Programme

Namami Gange Programme of Union Government is about, decrease in river pollution and to rejuvenate the Ganga.
On 13 April 2016 Union Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation and German International Cooperation (GIZ) signed an Implementation agreement for Ganga Rejuvenation under the Namami Gange Programme.
The ultimate goal is to adopt the successful river basin management strategies used for Rhine and Danube and replicate the same.

RBI gave approval to Airtel payments bank

Airtel M Commerce Services (ASML) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Airtel, which offers mobile money services under the brand name Airtel Money.
On 19 August 2015, RBI had issued in-principle approval to 11 applicants to set up payments banks.
On 11 April 2016 ASML, a subsidiary of Bharti Airtel, was granted the first payments bank license from Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
All companies, which received in-principle approval from RBI in August 2015, will have to make their banks operational by March 2017.

Global Tiger population grew by 22%

On 10 April 2016 The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the Global Tiger Forum (GTF) announced that, global wild tiger populations have increased by 22%.
This rise in the number of tigers is found in India, Russia, Nepal, and Bhutan.
The 3rd Asia Ministerial Conference on Tiger Conservation takes off on 12 April 2016 in New Delhi.

Scientists discovered way to predict earthquakes

Scientists from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) at its Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) have discovered a way to forecast earthquakes.
The ways were discovered to predict earthquakes based on tremors or earthquakes below a Richter scale of 2.
The study was led by an Indian-origin researcher.
The study reveals that;
• The vibration patterns are caused by alternating slow and fast ruptures occurring on the same patch of a fault.
• If only slow movements are detected, it does not mean that a large earthquake cannot happen there.

I Support Skill India campaign

Skill India is an initiative, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 16 July 2015.
In the second week of April 2016 Union Government signed Sachin Tendulkar to endorse the I Support Skill India campaign.
The step is taken to reach out to the youth and build awareness on the importance of skill development.
The initiatives include National Skill Development Mission, National Policy for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship 2015, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) scheme and the Skill Loan scheme.

10 April observed as World Homoeopathy Day

World Homoeopathy Day was observed on 10 April 2016. It was organised by India.
The day celebrates the birth anniversary of Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, a German Physician.
The day is observed by the international professional body of Homeopaths named as Liga Medicorum Homoeopathica Internationalis (LMHI).
The Homoeopathic fraternity organizes, road shows, medical camps and memorial events to popularize the strength of Homoeopathy.
At present, Homeopathy is practiced in more than 80 countries in different form.

India, Maldives signed six agreements

On 11 April 2016 India and Maldives singed six agreements to promote the bilateral relations between the two countries.
These agreements were signed during the two-day official visit of Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom in New Delhi.
These agreements contain;
• Agreement for Avoidance of Double Taxation of income
• Agreement for the Exchange of Information with respect to Taxes
• Bilateral Agreement related to Orbit Frequency Coordination of "South Asia Satellite” proposed at 48oE
• MoU for Cooperation in the area of conservation and restoration of ancient mosques and joint research and exploratory surveys in Maldives
• MoU on cooperation in the field of Tourism
• Action Plan for Defence Cooperation

Employment for meritorious sportspersons

On 10 April 2016 Jharkhand Chief Minister Ragbubar Das announced to reserve two percent employment in various departments for meritorious sportspersons.

The announcement was made at the inaugural function of the National Archery Championship at Arjuna stadium.

Lamborghini appointed Head of India Operations

 

On 6 April 2016 Italian luxury sports car maker Lamborghini appointed Sharad Agarwal as Head of India operations.

He will be responsible to drive the entire activities for the company in the subcontinent, overseeing sales, marketing, after sales and network development.

C Silvera, former Member of Parliament, passed away

On 9 April 2016 former Union Minister and Congress leader C Silvera passed away in Tuikhuahtlang, Aizawl district of Mizoram.

He died of heart failure. He was 81.

He was the longest serving member of Parliament from the Mizoram.

He was member of 9th, 10th and 11th Lok Sabha.

First Metrino Pod Taxi project approved for Gurgaon

Metrino Pod Taxi is a personal rapid transit (PRT) made up of small automated vehicles running at close intervals.

On 8 April 2016 the Union Government approved country’s first Metrino Pod project for Gurgaon, announced by Public Works (Building and Roads) Minister, Rao Narbir Singh.

The work on this project would start by 1 June 2016.

This project is being laid by the National Highways Authority of India.

Every pod can take up to five passengers and the fare would be similar to that of the metro.

Rajasthan becomes first state to clear land title Bill

Rajasthan has become the first state to pass land title bill as the State Assembly passed the Rajasthan Urban Land (Certification of Titles) Bills, 2016. The legislation was passed by the state assembly through a voice vote.

It means the state residents living in urban areas, which are governed by the municipalities or state development authorities, can seek a certificate of ownership of their lands by paying a nominal fee to the state government.

Sajibu Cheiraoba festival celebrated in Manipur

Sajibu Cheiraoba the traditional festival of Manipur was celebrated by Meiteis community (a majority ethnic group) of Manipur with cultural gusto and religious fervor.  The festival is mainly observed on the first lunar day of the lunar month Sajibu (March/April) and so it is also popularly known as Sajibu Cheiraoba.
